How
do I get started?

Pilates requires a through understanding of the foundation principles before moving onto a flowing workout class. These principles include concentration, centering, breathing, precsion and flow. There are over 500 different exercises performed on five unique pieces of apparatus. Each exercise is done in a particular sequence, with a minimum number of repetitions and a high degree of precision and mental focus. The movements are continuous from one exercise to the next, and as the client progresses, the workout becomes increasingly more challenging and aerobic. The "classical" Pilates method captures the benefits of Eastern exercise philosophies, like yoga, by emphasizing mental focus, breathing, and flexibility. Pilates also maximizes strength and endurance, which is the focus of traditional forms of Western exercise methods. By blending the best of these approaches, the Pilates method trains the mind and body to work together toward the goal of improved overall fitness.

Class Descriptions and Levels

The number of participants in all classes are limited so that you can have the best Pilates experience possible. Our staff can help you tailor a program that fits both your personal goals and your schedule. Centerspace is fully equipped with Peak Pilates equipment.

MAT CLASS
The essence of all Pilates work. A series of "mat" or floor exercises designed to create uniform development, long lean muscles, core strength and breath control. Max. 10 students.

REFORMER CLASS
Joe Pilates created the equipment to act as additional muscle to access the weak or elusive areas of the body. The reformer helps to build uniform development of the muscles that
support alignment and core stability. The Reformer resembles a single bed frame and is equipped with a carriage that slides back and forth and adjustable springs that are used to regulate tension and resistance. Cables, bars, straps, and pulleys allow the exercises to be done from a variety of positions. Max 4

COMBO CLASS

A creative blend of two essential pieces of Pilates equipment, the reformer and the Cadillac/wall (we call it springs) system. A fast paced, vigorous workout. Max 4

SPRING CLASS

A fabulous Pilates workout that uses all of the options provided by the wall or tower system. Max 4

If I have been working out with a Pilates video, do I need to start at the Beginning Level?

Yes. The good news about Pilates videos is that they introduce many people to Pilates. However, because there is no interactive guidance from someone with a trained eye, it is difficult, if not impossible, for one to correct themselves, and thus develop proper form … which is essential if one is to realize the true benefits of Pilates.
